Glass Anitos
Project type
Glass
Date
2019
Location
Oakland, CA
In indigenous Filipino folk religions, “Anitos” refers to spirits—of nature, ancestors, and deities. These figures were traditionally made to represent the spirit and used in rituals to honor or celebrate, guided by a shaman. This set of anitos was created to honor the ancestors I do not know—the souls that I never physically crossed paths with, but can feel through my own existence.
Made the California College of the Arts (2019).
Displayed in the California College of the Arts community garden (2021)
Shown at Kong Chow Sjourner Tombs in collaboration with Bryan Dominguez and Grace Jin for their community ritual Diasporic Tomb Sweeping (2023)
